With over 13+ post-qualification experience in Nigeria and a background in high-stakes Nigerian maritime litigation, I provide strategic litigation advice and representation to diverse clients in various maritime disputes. I have represented vessel and cargo interests before all tiers of Nigerian courts, including the Supreme Court. I advise on international trade law, international carriage of goods by sea, vessel arrests, marine insurance claims, cargo disputes, limitation of liability for maritime claims, etc.
I provide strategic consulting to law firms, insurers, and businesses operating in West Africa who need cross-jurisdictional legal insight rooted in experience. I was a central figure in the groundbreaking litigation on limitation of liability for maritime claims in Nigeria, securing the first judgment on the subject under the Nigerian Merchant Shipping Act, 2007.
I advise vessel operators in the Nigerian offshore industry on viable corporate and operational structures in line with local content laws and provide guidance on regulatory compliance and risk management strategies. I also represent clients in a wide range of vessel transactions, including acquisitions and ship finance deals. In addition, I provide legal advice on the employment of Nigerian seafarers for both coastal and ocean-going vessels.
